About Us
The Paws and Claws Family
Welcome to Paws and Claws! We're the Forsythe family—Wes, Kelly, our daughter, and our furry crew—and we're thrilled to carry on the legacy of this beloved local business. Established in 2009, Paws and Claws changed hands to our family in June 2025. We were ready for a fresh start, and with our love for animals and business know-how, we knew this was the perfect fit.
Our Story
We moved here from Washington with our three rescued Goldendoodles and fell in love with a resident cat. Also recently came a few kittens and rescued labradoodle from It Takes a Village Animal Rescue (ITV) to our family. We're passionate about supporting local rescue efforts and even volunteer our grooming services to help ITV dogs get ready for adoption events.
Our Home in the Country
You'll find us just outside Owensboro, close to the city but with a true country feel. Our big blue building with two red garage doors is easy to spot—just past the black tobacco barn as you're heading toward Worthington Road. Our home is right next door, so you'll often see us and our pets enjoying the outdoors.
We're so excited to welcome you and your pet to the Paws and Claws family! We can't wait to get to know you and your furry friend.

Frequently Asked Questions
What grooming services do you offer?
We provide full-service grooming for dogs and cats, including bathing, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and de-shedding treatments. Specialty add-ons like flea baths and teeth brushing are also available.
How often should my pet be groomed?
Most pets benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks, depending on their breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Regular grooming keeps your pet comfortable, reduces shedding, and helps spot health concerns early.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes — appointments help us ensure each pet gets the time and attention they deserve. Same-day appointments may be available, but we recommend booking in advance to reserve your preferred time.
How do you keep pets safe and comfortable during grooming?
Your pet’s safety is our top priority. We use gentle handling techniques, pet-safe products, and provide plenty of breaks to reduce stress. If your pet has special needs, let us know so we can tailor their grooming experience.
What vaccinations does my dog need to board with you?
To ensure the safety of all our guests, dogs are required to have up-to-date vaccinations for DHLP-Parvo, Rabies and Bordetella. We recommend that these be administered at least two weeks before your pet's stay. Please provide proof of vaccination from your vet upon check-in or send beforehand via text or email.
What vaccinations does my cat need to board with you?
For their well-being, we recommend your cat has vaccinations for RCP (also known as FVRCP), Rabies, and Feline Leukemia. We can make exceptions if your vet advises against certain shots.
What about food for my pet?
We have kennel dry food and canned food for both dogs and cats. These are available at $1/cup or can. But you are welcome to provide your pet's own food to avoid an upset stomach. We are happy to accommodate any special dietary needs, including preparing special meals or mixed foods, at no extra charge.
What are your hours for drop-off and pickup?
We have flexible hours to accommodate your travel schedule:
- Monday–Saturday: 7 AM to 6 PM
- Sunday: 5PM to 7 PM
- Monday–Saturday: 7 AM to 6 PM
Can I bring toys and bedding for my pet?
We encourage you to bring items that will make your pet feel at home. However, please be mindful of the following:
- Leave expensive beds at home, as some pets may chew or shred their bedding.
- Make sure any bedding you bring is washable. We will try to wash it prior to your pet leaving or pack it separately.
- Only bring durable toys like NylaBones or Kongs. Avoid rawhide and plastic toys, which can be choking hazards.
- Label all of your pet's belongings so we can ensure they are returned to you.

What if my pet gets sick or injured?
The health of your pet is our top priority. If they become sick or injured during their stay, we will promptly contact you and let you know. After discussion, we will plan the next step. If you not reachable we will refer to what you listed on your boarding agreement for emergencies. If it is an emergency we will take them to your preferred vet or, if after hours, to our emergency vet clinic. All associated vet and transportation fees will be passed on to you without any extra charge.
